One thing that I find interesting is that people who are already running a home based business still seek new ways to make money. Perhaps these individuals are not satisfied with the money which they are currently earning from their home business. However, my advice is that you focus on your current business, and work on becoming more adept.
When it comes to making money online, your first priority should be to identify your prototypical customer. In other words, when presented with what your business has to offer, who will be most interested in what your home business has to offer. Doing so will enable you to identify your target market, and avoid the waste and expense of blanket marketing. For an online business with a small budget, this is an essential exercise which will greatly enhance your probabilities for survival.
I am quite certain that most of you who are reading this article have heard of the company America Online (AOL). I am also sure that some of you received ten or more of their CD-ROM sleeves in the mail. I am absolutely sure that a fair number of you threw every one of these CD-ROM sleeves in the garbage. Do you realize that this is exactly what AOL expected the vast majority of you to do. Back then, the Internet market share was wide open and up for grabs. Even if you were not interested at the time, perhaps due to the lack of a computer, at least you knew that AOL provided Internet service. Since it was very difficult for AOL to identify I niche to market to, and they had the money, AOL marketed to everyone. As more and more people bought computers and realized that the Internet was here to stay, the market grew. Such a market is difficult to target.
With regards to your online business, you more than likely cannot afford to expend tens of thousands of marketing dollars all over the internet. Therefore, you need to identify your target market, and focus your marketing efforts on this group.
You need to brainstorm a little bit. Ask yourself the following:
Who actually NEEDS what you have to offer? For example, if your online business sells weight loss products, then your primary target marketing should be directed to those who perhaps need to lose weight, such as diabetics, or people with hypertension. Who WANTS what I have to offer? In the same example, those who are simply not happy with their current weight may not actually need what your online business offers, but probably want it.
Hereafter, you have to take a good look at the demographics of the people who are already customers of your online business. Specifically, who are these people? Where do these people live? Are the majority of them male or female? How did they first come across your online business? Are these individuals who surf the Internet frequently? You can also ask your customers to identify what their likes and dislike are about your current business. What would they like to see you offer in the future? Answers provided to such questions will even further enable you to target your market, making it more evident who you should be directing your marketing efforts towards.
All in all, if you take it upon yourself to identify both who needs and who wants what your online business offers, you will be able to vastly increase your profit margin. This is done by both saving and generating money, becoming more efficient in your marketing efforts. By taking these steps, you can avoid looking for new ways to make money through multiple businesses.
